A new BPD narrative

Welcome Back

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Thank you for waiting. I apologise it has been a while.

Well, here I am, standing at the edge of a new beginning, not really ready to step into the discomfort of vulnerability.

To those of you who’ve been walking this journey with me—thank you. Your presence in this space matters. I recently looked at previous comments on posts when I started this space. Although it looks a bit different now. I hope that, in the time since we last connected, you’ve found moments that have nurtured your body and mind, whether through movement, reflection, or connection.

In my absence, I’ve been immersed in transformation—giving life to my children, Katarina (now nearly three) and Jakob (nearly 12 months). It’s been a season of growth, mistakes and lessons learned. After taking another year of maternity leave, I now find myself at the crossroads of endings and beginnings: the pointy end of my PhD and the humble realization of how much I have yet to understand about Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and trauma.

I am profoundly privileged to listen to the stories shared with me. These narratives challenge me, invite me to question, and call me to walk alongside those who trust me with their truths.

I have learnt (or at least I think I have) about how to listen with curiosity and openness.

And in doing so, I’ve begun to reflect on my own stories—the ones I’ve lived, the ones I’ve had told about me, and the ones I’ve dared to question. And now, it’s time to share them. Through telling, we revisit and we question the silenced, misinterpreted, or ignored stories.

This is a call to unravel the stories we think we know about those with BPD. Stories that have shaped an uncaring institutional landscape. Stories that stigmatize and dehumanize. Stories that we must confront and rewrite. Stories that must be told.

It’s time to reclaim the narrative. To disrupt the labels imposed by the DSM. To listen more deeply, question more bravely, and craft a new story—one that centers humanity, dignity, and understanding.

As you read, I invite you to stay with me in the discomfort. To bring your own stories—your truths, your questions, your reflections—and revisit them with open hearts and curious minds. Together, let’s weave a new narrative of care and compassion that brings our own stories alongside those who have lived in stories of shame.

Together lets tell a better story and break the label that negatively portrays the lives of many people given the label of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
